Summary:
The Brent Goose is relatively small for a goose. Its plumage is rather dark and contrasts with the white under-tail and neck ring. The belly may be light or dark depending on the population. The bill is black.
Ecology:
The Brent Goose breeds in artic regions and can only be found in the British Isles during winter, when their loud, characteristic rott rott call can be heard. In winter and during migration periods Brent Geese form large flocks, which can be often observed in coastal regions. The nest is made from down, moss, grass and lichens and is built in a flat scrape in the ground, often on an elevated spot. It feeds on seagrass, algae and saweed.
